The ponding test, properly done

Where ponding genuinely isn't possible (a shared terrace, for instance), ask for the builder's own test record rather than accepting a visual check of the membrane alone. A membrane can look intact and still fail under sustained standing water.

Why terraces actually leak

  • The waterproofing membrane gets walked over and damaged by other trades working on the terrace after it's laid — a common site sequencing problem.
